To prevent accidents caused by the increase in load rates, it is necessary to maintain an appropriate reserve ratio and control the temporary maximum demand power. To encourage users to voluntarily manage their maximum demand power, Korea Electric Power Corporation has decided to base the basic charge on maximum demand power during electricity rate assessments. Continuous management of maximum usage power is essential to lower the basic charge. For managing maximum usage power, a maximum demand power controller should be used to set target power levels, continuously monitor usage power (peak power) to ensure it does not exceed the set target, and compare the pre-set target value with the current power usage. If the current power exceeds the target power, loads that can be temporarily turned off, such as air conditioners, refrigerators, pumps, and HVAC systems, should be automatically and cyclically disconnected. When the usage power is below the target power or the demand time limit ends, the load power should be automatically restored to control the maximum demand power.
